Rahul finished with the magical figures and excellent economy rate of 1.75 for which he received Man of the Match award for the 1st time in the IPL. According to Rahul, he had a strategy to bowl wicket to wicket with variations for that performance. He exceeds Brett Lee's economy rate of 2.25 with figures 4-0-9-1 for Punjab at Mohali on April 25, 2008. In the history of the IPL, just two bowlers have conceded below 7 runs in a 4 over spell - (4-1-6-0) Fidel Edwards for Deccan vs. Kolkata at Cape Town on April 19, 2009 and (4-1-6-1) Ashish Nehra for Delhi vs. Punjab at Bloemfontein on May 15, 2009.

The 24-year-old Rahul Sharma, who is more than six-feet tall, said that IPL is a big platform for players like him to showcase their talent at a huge stage, where young domestic players faces the international stars. His dream is to always play good for India. Tendulkar even told him that Rahul is bowling at his best, which is the great compliment one may obtain. Harbhajan Singh had also given an advice to Rahul that his strong point is the bounce. Bhajji told him to keep working on that.

IPL is a boon for young skill as per Rahul, who idolizes earlier Indian leg spinner, Anil Kumble. Also he thanked the owners and the team management for having faith in him, and to Subrata Roy (Sahara group chief), Yuvraj Singh, Geoff Marsh (Pune coach) as well as Praveen Amre for helping him much, chiefly for giving bowling tips. Rahul is eager to catch into "blue jersey" and perform well for country at the international stage.

In IPL 4, 2011 for the purple cap, Malinga - 26 stands at the first place while Munaf Patel and Rahul Sharma at the second and third place with 11 matches and taking 17 and 14 wickets respectively. Rahul had made IPL debut in 2010 for Deccan Chargers. He had played 6 matches for DC and took only five wickets and went at 8.08 an over in last season. After switching to Pune Warriors this year, he has already taken 14 wickets with superb economy rate of 5.24.
